XI GENERAL CHAPTER FAM – 1

Jesus Christ, the Savior, was born

The light glitter, the sound of the bells, the expression of joy on the child’s face….it seems that there is no doubt: it’s Christmas!

The Atmosphere helps, but it’s not enough (at least if there’s not an inner attitude) in order that everyone could live the big mystery we could contemplate in this Holy Night:” And the angel said, have no fear; for truly, I give you good news of great joy which will be for all the people: on this day, in the town of David, a Saviour has born, who is Christ the Lord” (Lc 2,10b-11).

Mother Esperanza, while Christmas is arriving, writes to the different communities of the sisters of the Merciful Love: “ I think that you all are very busy while preparing your hearts to receive Jesus that has just been born. Let’s make sure that Jesus will find our hearts warm for the love and charity fire. “(El pan 20, cir. 8).

Our Mother always lived (and the people who stayed with her too) the Christmas day in a very special way. She wanted that the Sisters, and the Sons too, prepared themselves intensely and with great love for the celebration of Jesus’ coming on earth. Even if the Sisters were always busy with their work, they anyway found the way to prepare the “Bambinelli” and the nativity scene all over the house: all different and meaningful and the Mother went to visit them on Christmas day with her Daughters.

Our religious family wishes all of you to live fully and intensely this Holy Christmas, in contemplation of the poverty and humble condition in which our Saviour became flesh.

God grant your families peace and serenity, especially for those who are facing difficult moments.

Vocation is a free gift of Merciful Love, on the same day our Bros. Michael Viyagappan FAM, Pramod Roy FAM, and Joy Antony FAM have renewed their vows for two more years. Each call is God’s victory; each call is God’s hope. On this great occasion the Family of Merciful Love rejoices for the perpetual profession of Br. Joji FAM and the renewal of vows of the three brothers and at the same time for the commitment of various brothers (FAM) and sisters (EAM). We continue to seek the intercession of Blessed Mother Esperanza of Jesus. May she inspire us more and more that people may see us and follow the Merciful Love.

Hearty congratulations to all our brothers and sisters. Wishing a peaceful and prosperous Christmas season.

FEAST OF MERCIFUL LOVE

Our mother, Blessed Mother Speranza tells us: “From this throne of wood is where the good Jesus makes the greatest conquests and continually we can see souls, thirsty to suffer for their God, who devote themselves totally to his service in the exercise of charity and feel happy when they can suffer something for the good Jesus despite the repugnance of nature, they are seen courageously carrying their cross with love to resemble their Divine Master” (Pan 15:13).
We , the Religious Family of merciful love celebrated the feast of Christ the King…the king who is merciful.
On that day the presence of His excellency rev.Dr .Paul Antony mullassery, Bishop of Quilon, was a heavenly blessing for our family toghter with our sisters.
We sons of merciful love renewed our vows devotionaly as we do twice a year

21/11/2021: the solemnity of Christ the King

On November 21st 2021 we celebrate the solemnity of Christ the King and this date marks the end of the liturgical year too. It is the feast of Jesus Merciful Love, the Holder of the two Congregations founded by Mother Esperanza, and it marks the beginning of the Advent’s season.

Christ’s royalty should be a reason for reflection, deepening and imitation because His royalty is service royalty, love royalty, not power, richness, arrogance royalty, but love.

In the Sanctuary of Merciful Love of Collevalenza, the Crucifix dominates over the Altar, as Consecrated Esperanza of Jesus wanted, a Christ nailed to the Cross, that is wearing a crown of thorns: the throne of the Cross and the crown of thorns, here Jesus’ royalty.

During this solemnity all the Sons of Merciful Love renew in the same day their religious profession; this acknowledges their adherence to the Charism, on the steps of Jesus Merciful Love, King of the Universe.

THE AMAZING INDIA

Anyone who has lived in India for some time will not be surprised by what is about to read.

We are located specifically in the southwest of India, in Kerala.

The images that you can see are from the garden-park of the EAM community in Nanthirickal, Quilon. It is a splendid relax to contemplate so many trees and so much green. Among the trees there are many palm trees that have large leaves, party food for many animals, among them also for the huge elephants. It is known that in Hindu culture it is considered as one of the sacred animals and its mystical and religious value is unpredictable.

Well, with these pachyderms we remain!

We contacted some elephant owners offering them the possibility to come and collect abundant food for their “children”. They accepted. Thus, a few weeks later, one morning they informed that they were coming. Vow! What will happen!!!

Three men arrived with a 16-year-old pachyderm, about 4 meters tall and 2200 kilos, a perfect fitness model! They said there are some that weigh up to 7 tons,  that he is the largest terrestrial mammal, and its pregnancy lasts 22 months and when the baby elephant is born it already weighs 90 kilos.

It took only a few minutes for the sisters and the girls who live with us be in front of the new visitor! Suddenly he began to eat palm leaves that we put to reach easily. From time to time he moved to eat the fresh green grass. Fed up with eating, he gave us part of his perfect digestion that, seen as seen, showed that he did not need laxatives! They said they eat about 180 kilos of food a day. That’s how they are!

There were moments of real euphoria taking photos, selfies. The most courageous came to touch him, but they ran fast as soon as he moved his trunk or his enormous ears, the largest in the world, which serve as a fan every time they flap.

We ask for information about the proboscis or trunk. In short: it is like a multi functional key: it helps them to breathe, lift objects, drink water, caress… They have a very developed sense of smell, useful for recognising the best food, perceiving danger etc. They told us that they are intelligent with a great memory, solidarity, docility and loyalty. We know that there are many and curious episodes about these pachyderms.

Then came the moments of the orders of its owners: to lie down… and the enormous pachyderm, docile as a lamb, lay down on the ground until another order told it to get up; later, close to a tree, he was told to pick leaves and that was what the obedient animal did. Another order was to lift a leg for the tamer to climb on, and it was.

Finally, having prepared the great bunch of palm leaves, they ordered him to take it and with the help of his tusks and his trunk, he lifted up the heavy bunch easily.

Last order: walking out of the garden with his precious food, before to reach the exit, the suggestion was: say hello and, flapping his huge ears, he gave us a friendly farewell greeting. Excellent obedience!

Elephant with its tamer

We do not pretend to give exemplary lessons, because we do not need animals to imitate, but with a little good inner imagination, something can be learned from the docility, loyalty, and solidarity of the largest animal in the world: ELEPHANTS!

LET US CELEBRATE!!!

The day is very special in three ways. It is very special for the church because of the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This significant feast day recalls the spiritual and physical departure of the mother of Jesus Christ from the earth, when both her soul and her body were taken into the presence of God.

It is special for the Indians because of the 75th Independence Day, with the usual pride to mark its freedom from British rule. The Indian Independence movement began during World War I and was led by Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. On August 15, 1947, India got its freedom, ending an almost 200-year British rule. It is a day of immense pride for all Indians as we commemorate the sacrifices made by millions of our freedom fighters, who had sacrificed their lives in the freedom struggle and with their unfaltering grit and patriotism, forced the British Empire to finally retreat.

At last it is very special to the family of Merciful Love because of the birthday of the second child of the family, the Sons of Merciful Love. Obedient to the voice of the Spirit, on 15 August 1951, in Rome, Mother Esperanza gave life to the Congregation of the Sons of Merciful Love and the first son of Merciful love was Fr. Alfredo De Penta.

“They will bring help and relief to many needy and afflicted families, and consolation to the sick ; in them, the orphans will find a family, the young their guides, the weak their support, and those who have fallen the strength to get up.”

The Congregation of the FAM is called to manifest the Merciful Love above all by the holiness of its life, through charitable works, of which the main one is the union with the diocesan clergy. The priests and the charitable works in favor of the poor are closely united as common objective.

A Congregation of Priests and Brothers who proclaim the Merciful Love by dedicating themselves with attention to the diocesan priests and, “united with these as brothers, they exercise with enthusiasm and only for love to our Lord, all other works of charity” (Const. FAM, art. 18).

In every celebration there is a dream behind it. In the assumption of Mary there is a dream of God that is the salvation of mankind. In the celebration of the Independence Day there is a dream of freedom of many. And In the foundation of the family of Merciful love there is a sole dream that is to be the dispensers of Merciful Love.

Let us celebrate the feast also the dream so that every day it may come true in our life.

Let us celebrate!!!

A new step…

Today, 15th August 2021 is a graceful day for our Religious family of Merciful Love. With the Holy Church we celebrate the Blessed Solemnity of the Assumption of of our Lady; we remembered with great joy and profound gratitude the 70th anniversary of the foundation day of the Congregation of the Sons of Merciful Love. And God who plans everything, has arranged todayv another delightful moment too for us: Meenu and Rejeena, two adolescent girls showed their willingness to continue to do the experience the Merciful Love and thus they began their postulancy with the solemn mass of this great day. There is a nuance in this event: Regeena is the first vocation we have from Tamilnadu (another state of India). Lt’s wish them a wonderful and profound experience ahead!!!

Let God work in our lives……….

An inspiring story for young people: by Madel C. del Mundo, the first novice from Philippines.

Jesus looked around and saw rich people dropping their gifts in the Temple treasury, and he also saw a very poor widow dropping in two little copper coins. He said, “I tell you that this poor widow put in more than all the others. For the other offered their gifts from what they had to spare from their riches; but she, poor as she is, gave all she had to live on.” (Luke 21:1-4)
How about me? What is my offering for Him? This is the bible story that inspired me to do/ give something for the Lord, so I decided to look for an orphanage or any place where I can spend some of my time to serve others preferably the children. And God answered me in this way…
It was first Sunday of July 2016 when I first saw the sisters. After the mass, they were walking with the children and I was so touched by the way the children hold their hands and the sisters are also very sweet to them. I watched them for a moment.
At first, I was hesitant to come near them because that time many sisters are asking me if I wanted to enter a convent. This idea confused me a lot because I already prepared so many plans for myself and to enter a convent is not on the list. But, I noticed that the sisters are foreigners and I thought they will not bother to ask me. So, I came to ask for a blessing and ask if they need a volunteer. It was sister Suja I first spoke with. She said “yes” so I left my phone number to her. I waited for two weeks but, I did not receive any call. To be honest I don’t understand why I felt sad. I attended the mass again in the Shrine of Divine Mercy (31 July 2016) and I saw them… the same scene with the children and it seemed that my feet were magneted towards them. I spoke to one of them (mother Erika),my exact words: “sister, I am waiting for your call”. And it looked like she remembers something and she invited me to come with them.
When I had the chance to speak with sister Suja, I asked why she did not call me. She said that the paper where my number was written was lost with her handkerchief. She told mother Erika about it and she said that: It’s okay. If she really likes, she will come back. And I came back…. and the story of my vocation began.
I started to visit the sisters more often. I began to be very excited for saturdays to come. At first, I just assist to teach the children. And then, when the number of children rise, I was given my own class. Little children of three to six years old and sometimes there are even babies. With them, I learned to appreciate and be happy with simple things. I carry them, sing, dance, play and pray with them. Sometimes, during my rest days, I am coming with them also to visit some sick people and poor places.
People started to notice me always near the sisters so they said maybe I have vocation… maybe God is calling me. That time it’s a big “NO”for me…On my mind, I am here to teach the children not to be a sister.
I continue my life working on weekdays and seeing the sisters on weekends. What I love about the sisters is that they never force me about anything they respected me and just allow God to work. One thing I am sure: they pray a lot for me. 🙂
The time came they started to organize “search in”, where they invited girls to stay with them for some days and speak about prayer, the congregation, Blessed mother Esperanza, some things that concern religious life and vocation. The day I attended I met fr. Alberto Casado. There is one thing that I cannot forget that day… not his exact words but as I understand, he invited us to examine our hearts. He said that there are two kinds. One kind of heart can be for limited person (family, friends, spouse…) and the other kind of heart is free to be loved by anyone and to love everyone as well. That moment, I know very well what kind of heart God has given me… but, I tried not to entertain it… as I’ve said I have my own plans.
Despite of terrible confusion, I remain seeing the sisters and I even started to have a personal talk with mother Erika. I ask her anything I wanted to know about their life. I attend the mass regularly and pray often. I began to love staring to the crucifix of Merciful Love. The open arms of Mary Mediatrix is always an invitation for me to stay. The sweet smile of Blessed Mother Esperanza is telling me that I am “welcome”. I even read a book about Blessed Mother Esperanza, which inspires me so much. I began to love how the sisters are living. I pray a lot and ask God to guide me, help me and lead me the way which will please Him.
Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. (Proverbs 19:21)
The time came when my heart cannot contain any longer… I cannot understand and I cannot give you an exact explanation of what’s inside my heart. All I wanted to is to be closer to Jesus and have a beautiful relationship with Him.
I was able to give up one by one each of the things I am holding on to in order to empty my hands so that I can hold firmly to the one who is calling me. I welcome Jesus inmy heart.
After almost two years of visiting the sisters, I did my official aspirancy for ten months, postulant for two years and now I am a Novice.
Things are not easy but this is not a hindrance to keep the joy of living the life that God wanted for me. Now, I am sent here in Rome to do my formation. Different place, culture, people, food, weather almost everything but one thing in common: The Merciful Love and this is more than enough reason for me to go on. I believe that whatever lies ahead are for my own good even if I don’t understand, I trust that the Holy Spirit is always with me as my companion.
I cannot write here everything that happened for the past years this will be too long. I would just like to take this opportunity  to encourage the young people not to close their hearts to the calling of God.
Yes, its true that we have good plans for ourselves but God is the one who knows what is the best for us. Listen to Him and do not be afraid. If God calls you to work for His kingdom He will also give all the grace you need each and everyday. Always remember that you will never be alone.
Like the widow who gave all she had to live on, we must be courageous as well to offer our lives… to God.
